The ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union) research committee “SG20 (Study Group 20)” was established in 2015.

It researches IoT (Inetrnet of Things) and SC&C (Smart Cities and Communities) and is working on standardization work. “ITU-T SG20” enhances interoperability of each project by establishing international standards.

In addition, it promotes efforts aimed at improving the efficiency of urban infrastructure such as transportation systems and water networks by developing IoT technology through collaboration.

Countries in the world such as North America, Europe, and Africa, as well as Asian countries such as China and South Korea, participate in the “ITU-T SG20” meeting.

They are also working to develop the IoT market as a whole by sharing the use cases of each IoT application.

・About IoT blockchain project by ZTE and China Unicom

In July of this year, at the plenary session of “ITU-T SG20”, the “IoT blockchain project” was announced, which ZTE and China Unicom will jointly develop.

・Suppl.59 (Outline of blockchain that supports the Internet of Things)

・ITU-T Y.4561 (standard for blockchain data management)

・ITU-T Y. 4560 (standard for blockchain data exchange and sharing)

This project has been discussed and modified in the ITU-T FG DPM and “ITU-T SG20” over more than two years.

The approval of the three projects after deliberation at the ITU-T SG20 plenary session is considered to be an important milestone for China to join the “international standard” in the IoT blockchain market.

In China, companies are already making active efforts in the IoT blockchain market, and international standards such as “ITU-T SG20” will receive a great deal of attention in the future.
